AOH Veterans Report (July-August 2022)
National:
As I write this on September 11th, 21 years after the attacks of 9/11 on the twin towers of the World Trade Center and the Pentagon, I thought it appropriate to note the observance and the need to support efforts to educate our young people in schools across the nation about the events of 9/11 when our nation was attacked by radical Islamic terrorists. We shall never forget and we should ensure all Americans will never forget.
State: Governor Youngkin signed the veterans retirement bill on September 9th. Beginning in 2022, veterans 55 years of age and older can deduct up to $10,000 of military retirement income and other military benefits. The deduction is increased to $20,000 for 2023, $30,000 for 2024, and $40,000 for 2025 and thereafter.
History and Patriotism-Irish in the Military
I will encourage Brothers to either send me their story of service or of a Brother they know, especially considering today’s observance where 343 members of the FDNY including my cousin in law’s brother Stephen Gerald Stiller; 55 members of the US military at the Pentagon; 71 law enforcement officers including NYPD and Port Authority Police. This does not include the many who have died from toxic exposure since then. Add to that Iraq: 4,550 deaths KIA and Afghanistan: over 2,400 deaths.
