Ryan Driscoll selected as AOH Young Ambassador

Ryan Driscoll has been selected as one of 10 young adults to serve as young ambassadors for the Ancient Order of Hibernians to Northern Ireland.

Driscoll is set to graduate from George Mason University with his bachelor’s degree in political science in May, and later in the month, he will fly to Dublin to join nine other Americans who will spend time touring Northern Ireland.

The Young Ambassador Program is organized through the Friends of Saint Patrick and the Saint Patrick Centre in Downpatrick, County Down, Northern Ireland.

It partners with the Ancient Order of Hibernians and the Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians in America.

The program “is designed to promote a greater understanding of the shared cultural heritage of Northern Ireland in North America” among young adults between the ages of 19 and 25, according to the website ( https://www.youngambassadorprogram.com/about ).

Those selected “travel to Northern Ireland to explore various aspects of the history and traditions of the island of Ireland and develop their own chosen cultural dissertations,” according to the program’s website. “They will complete their agreed dissertations when they go home, and following a successful review will be formally made ‘Young Ambassadors.’ “

Driscoll said he applied to the program to learn about the judicial system there. He hopes to continue his education after his return by entering a master’s degree program or law school.

Immediately after the program in Northern Ireland ends, Driscoll’s parents will fly to Ireland and they will spend a week with him visiting the Republic of Ireland in the south.
