Meeting Minutes For:  03/09/2026

Prior to the meeting, Brother Hibernian Jerry Laffey played the bagpipes at the entrance to the meeting hall to greet our members as they arrived.

Call to Order – Monthly Division Minutes:  The regular monthly business meeting of the division was called to order by President Brian Tumulty at 7:07 pm.

The Opening Prayer:

In the name of St. Patrick, the Glorious Apostle of Ireland, I open this meeting and beseech our Heavenly Father to watch over us and protect us.  May He grant us that peace and harmony will always prevail among us, and that Friendship, Unity, and Christian Charity will inspire all our deliberations, through Christ our Lord, Amen.

The Our Father was recited.

The Pledge of Allegiance was recited.        

Membership:

The Marshall verified that all who were present had valid membership cards.

Report and Approval of the Previous Meeting Minutes:

Greg Gibbons moved to approve the previous minutes, seconded by John Masarick, passed unanimously.

Chaplain’s Report:

Both of Deacon’s parents were from Ireland, and he has been there twice. Looking forward to another trip to get acquainted with the land his parents grew up in.

President’s Report:

In the middle of the busiest month of the year, St Patrick is the most celebrated of the saints of Ireland, along with St Brigid and St Columba. We use this month to mark our Irish heritage. We are to welcome the stranger, including immigrants. We also mark this month to celebrate Ireland’s independence as a free Republic. The story of Ireland continues to develop, even today.

Proposition of candidates for membership:

 Philip Dwayne: Lives in Manassas, works as a teacher, may be coming by. All Saints parishioner. Nice, beautiful family with five kids. Comes to Mass every Sunday. His wife, Angela, attends all service events. Motion by Greg Gibbons, seconded by John Masarick, approved unanimously

Report on the calendar of events:

Saturday, 3/14, is the St. Patrick’s Day parade in Manassas. Assemble by 10:30 am, parade at 11 am, 9 am we have breakfast at Old Towne Sports pub
  Also, Saturday 3/14 is the St Patrick’s Dinner, hosted by George Brent, from 6:30-11 pm  
Monday, 3/16, is the annual Gaelic Mass at St. Agnes Catholic Church (Arlington). Hosted by the John Fitzgerald AOH Division. Reception is up the hill, will have Irish dancers.  
Tuesday, 3/17, 6 pm (St Patrick’s Day) will have the Trip to Ireland Raffle Drawing at Old Towne Sports Pub  
Friday 3/20, 5-7:30 pm: AOH is hosting the Fish Fry at the George Brent KoC Hall. Cooks and Dishwashers should be there at 3 pm, Customer Service at 4:30 pm
Saturday/Sunday 3/21-3/22, 10 am-6 pm, Church Hill Irish Festival in Richmond
  Greg emphasizes attending the fish fry, as we make a lot of money for the division by going. Rupert says that our fish fry is the best out of all other parishes’ fish fries.
  Thursday, 4/9, 7 pm is the Officers Meeting at Ornery Beer Company. Open to non-officers  
Monday, 4/13, 7 pm is the monthly business meeting  
Saturday evening, 4/18, the Past Presidents’ Dinner will be at Logan’s Roadhouse. There will be Irish Dancers and bagpipes. Start about 6:30 pm. Choice of onion soup, house salad, or Caesar salad, then green beans or baked potato. Sirloin with shrimp, NY Strip, ribs, salmon, grilled chicken. $35 per person, includes meal and drinks, excluding alcohol. Reservations in advance, including payment.
Also Saturday 4/18, noon-4 pm, Virginia AOH quarterly meeting at St. Theresa’s school.

Friday 4/24 5-9 pm, Saturday 4/25 11 am-7 pm is the All-Saints Parish Festival. Our responsibility is garbage disposal.
  4/26 is the Mark Forrest event at St. Andrew the Apostle. We are approved to have a table there for recruitment.
  Thursday, 5/7, 7 pm is the Officer’s Meeting at Ornery Brewery Company
  Monday, 5/11, 7 pm is the monthly business meeting
  Friday, 5/15, 7:30 pm-10 pm is the Beer Tasting fundraiser. Tickets are $20 each; we are trying to sell 100 tickets.  
FUTURE EVENTS: Hunger Project, golf tournament, Whiskey tasting, Wreath laying at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, Winery outing, Club room trivia night, and halfway to St Patrick’s Day

Freedom for All Ireland:

The Irish government has advised citizens to leave the Middle East. Foreign affairs minister to find shelter in place and avoid land routes.   Ireland has joined several other nations in advising citizens to avoid travel to Cuba unless necessary.   Sinn Féin will not attend the St Patrick’s Day events in the White House. The Taoiseach will attend.

Hunger project

May 9, September 19, in front of the Giant off Clover Hill and Hastings. Contact is Julie, who asked for a list of goods and supplies we’d like. Bethany Food Pantry has provided us with a list to give to Giant. 10 am-4 pm on both dates. It’d be nice to have at least two more trucks to move food to the pantry. 703-895-6614 to contact Mike

Sign up for the Virginia Catholic Conference, which advocates for life issues on behalf of Catholic bishops and their dioceses. In the November 3 election, there is an abortion referendum. There is a flyer we can distribute.

March 3 is the anniversary of the 1991 ceasefire for Desert Shield and Desert Storm.

Report on the sick and visitations

VP of division at St Mary of Sorrows, Pete O’Neill, and his wife are both very ill.
Dennis Connolly has Parkinsons and prostate cancer.
Paul’s father was rushed to the hospital and needs an aortic valve replacement.

Sold out Raffle Tickets. We can sell 150 tickets for the Cunningham division at $10 each and keep $5 per ticket.  

Treasurer’s Report: five checks written to cover expenses and over $1,100 depositied.

Please pray for Jonathan Stine, who went into a bad fugue state and went missing. Was found after a week.

Prayer to St. Jude: Saint Jude, glorious Apostle, faithful servant and friend of Jesus: The name of the traitor has caused you to be forgotten by many, but the true Church invokes you universally as the Patron saint of difficult cases, and things almost despaired of. Please pray for us, as we are so helpless and alone.  Intercede with God for us that He bring visible and speedy help. Come to our assistance in this great need that we may receive the consolation and help of Heaven in all our necessities, tribulations, and sufferings, particularly for those in need under our Good and Welfare of the order, and that we may bless God with the Elect throughout eternity. Amen. Saint Jude, Apostle, martyr, and relative of our Lord Jesus Christ, of Mary and St. Joseph, intercede for us. Amen.
