President’s Report for September 2022 – Pat Sullivan

First: Father Dan has accepted our invitation to be our Division Chaplain.  Now all we must find the Medallion which allegedly is in the Parish office somewhere.

Second: Our Request for Membership paragraph made it into this past Sunday’s (11 Sep 22) bulletin.

Third: Report on the Medical Condition of our Brother Paul Huber:

This is an extract from an email forwarded to me on 15 August by John Masarick and originally sent to John and Greg Rebbert:

Greg/John,

I hope you are well- I apologize for not maintaining contact with you and the rest of the AOH brothers. If you would- I’m asking that this, be shared this sentiment with the brothers.

Several years back I was diagnosed with severe obstructive sleep apnea which was impacting my overall health and particularly my heart function due to the lack of oxygen through the night. I couldn’t sleep with a CPAP machine and underwent a procedure where they removed the back of my tongue, adenoids, uvula, palate, etc. The evasiveness of the procedure resulted in the onset of significant PTSD symptoms where I couldn’t shut down and significantly impacted my mood resulting in an inability to work and engage in other normal activities. I am still recovering. I was additionally diagnosed with central sleep apnea which involves my brain not properly signaling my lungs to breathe through the night. Over the past 6 months, I had two pacemaker device implantations which are supposed to automatically breathe for me through the night.  I am planning on a 3rd operation in that the device is still not working effectively. I have also had two heart ablations and anticipate a 3rd in the near future.  Over these past years, I’ve kept these health challenges to myself instead of reaching out and maintaining active in past activities.   I’m sharing this in order that the brothers may know that my reason for leaving AOH had nothing to do with them or AOH in any way but a result of me shutting down as I encountered these challenges- in retrospect, I wish I had done so at the time. My hope is in time to make gains and re-engage in work and other efforts as my health improves. In the meantime, I remain supportive of all AOH represents and contributes to the community.

Regards,

Paul

The division officers discussed and decided to reinstate Paul’s membership.  Via email with Paul, I told him the division would be praying for him and will love to see him back at meetings when he is able.
