Past President James P. McCusker received a Commodore John Barry Medal at a dinner on April 12 in recognition of his continuing service to the Ancient Order of Hibernians Father Kelley Division.
President Greg Gibbons presented the medal to McCusker, noting that J.P., as he is known, runs the annual trip to Ireland raffle, which is the division’s biggest fundraiser.
Two sets of sisters from the Boyle School of Irish Dance entertained those attending the dinner at the City Tavern in Manassas.
Ellen Boyle Gibbons, who founded the school with her sister, Allanah, 30 years ago, introduced the sisters. Gibbons said the school’s philosophy encourages family participation. She observed that many of their students come from large families.
Connolly led the participants in a sing-along accompanied by the division’s recorder, Paul Hannan, who played the trombone.
Connolly, a retired music teacher, also played a medley of songs on the tin whistle.
