Around a dozen brother Hibernians gathered early Saturday morning on August 15 for a road cleanup of Stonewall Road. The credit for organizing this event goes to immediate past president Rick Ring, who served the participants a tail gate style light breakfast of coffee and donuts from Dunkin Donuts.
Although Stonewall Road was relatively clean before the clean up, our brothers kicked it up a notch to make it spotless by scouring the curbs and bushes for cigarette butts, broken glass, and other litter.
There’s not much our division can do in the way of events during the pandemic, so this socially distanced, outdoor outing was a welcome one. It got everyone out of the house and gave us an opportunity to catch up with each other. And, of course, we practiced our order’s principle of Irish friendliness as we walked the road.
Brother Mike Curry brought along his 16-year-old son Zane, who logged an hour of community service. And brother Pete Hawkins gave us a demonstration in multitasking, ducking into the Knights Hall to also donate blood.
