The Virginia State Meeting was on 27 July. Various Divisions reported on their activities and charities. The state officers gave their reports, encouraged the viewing of the state website. As necessary use of the deceased member form. There will be a Gaelic Festival in Front Royal on Saturday 2 November. Father Farrell, the State Chaplin spoke about the Cathedral project.
Cathedral renovation includes a St. Patrick Statue and Stained Glass Shrine. We have the money in our reserve (approximately $20,000) to support this effort with a $5,000 donation. We have the Trip to Ireland savings. The total project will cost $100,000. They have already received donations from two other divisions, Annandale and Sterling. Fairfax Station is voting on a donation this month. Fr. Farrell is donating $2,500 and the students at GMU campus ministry are raising $2,500. There are five of these shrines included in the renovation. The Irish one is behind the other ethnic shrines as far as donations are concerned. We have prepared an updated budget that was sent out to all members. And we will vote on the proposed new budget, donation next month. Fr. Farrell will come to talk with us. Part of our mission is to promote Irish Heritage. I will send out a picture of the actual statue and will have brochures in the back of the room to review after the meeting.
